The Cubs have asked about Nationals outfielder Nyjer Morgan, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.
The Nationals aren't interested in dealing him. Morgan, 29, batted .307/.369/.388 with 25 extra-base hits, 42 stolen bases and 74 runs scored in 120 games between the Pirates and Nationals in '09 before fracturing his left hand in August. The Cubs are rightly exploring the alternatives now that they've shed Milton Bradley, but the Nationals have no desire to swap a player who is so valuable to their lineup on both sides of the ball.

According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, Nyjer Morgan took 30 swings off a tee on Wednesday.
Morgan missed the last month of the season with a fractured left hand, however he is now feeling 100 percent. "The hand feels good," said Morgan. "Even though the injury is in the back of my mind, I said, 'Don't push it. But I wanted to push it. I know it's November. It was something I really want to feel. I really feel good about everything." The 29-year-old speedster batted .307/.369/.388 with three home runs, seven triples, 15 doubles, 42 stolen bases and 74 runs scored in 120 games between the Pirates and Nationals in 2009. Fantasy owners hope he can be the same spark plug in 2010.

The Nationals have confirmed that outfielder Nyjer Morgan broke his hand Thursday and will miss the remainder of the 2009 season.
"It's broke, guys," he told a group of reporters Thursday, "and I'm done for the year." Morgan was hitting an outstanding 351/.393/.435 with 22 stolen bases in two months with the Nationals. The 29-year-old should be fine by the start of spring training in 2010. Look for the club to recall outfielder Justin Maxwell.

Nyjer Morgan reportedly has a broken hand.
Morgan had been pacing the Nationals to respectability with a .351/.393/.435 line and 22 stolen bases since being acquired from Pittsburgh June 30, but a fractured hand will knock him out for the year. Nats fans can take solace in the fact that they're coming close to solidifying their lead in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes.
