The Broncos are expected to target a mid-to-late round running back or a young free agent with upside this offseason.
Correll Buckhalter turns 32 in October, and the Josh McDaniels staff was a lot more hesitant to use Peyton Hillis as a runner. Beat writer Frank Schwab suspects Hillis could be "on his way out." In which case, Mike Shanahan would likely be interested in adding him to the Redskins backfield.

Broncos FB Peyton Hillis didn't play a single offensive snap in the team's Week 15 loss to Oakland.
This is despite the deactivation of Correll Buckhalter (ankle). Hillis has touched the ball 16 times all year and is posing no apparent threat to rookie Knowshon Moreno's workload, let alone FB Spencer Larsen's playing time.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said part of the reason Peyton Hillis wasn't used as a short-yardage runner in Week 14 was because of an injury to FB Spencer Larsen.
Larsen's opening-kickoff injury forced Hillis into more lead blocking. Still, McDaniels confirmed after the game that he views Knowshon Moreno as his best goal-line and short-yardage back. Hillis, who has just 16 touches on offense all season, figures to have a very insignificant role Sunday even if Correll Buckhalter (ankle) doesn't play.

Broncos beat writer Mike Klis speculates that Peyton Hillis could have an increased role this week.
With LaMont Jordan out, Correll Buckhalter gimpy and Chris Simms possibly under center, it would make sense for Hillis to be active and get work. But Hillis was a healthy scratch last week and he has been a lost man in coach Josh McDaniels' backfield. Don't expect much.

Peyton Hillis was a healthy scratch last week because of special teams considerations, according to coach Josh McDaniels.
McDaniels left the door open for Hillis to be active this week, but Hillis won't have a significant role. Those five touchdowns and one 100-yard game he put up last year are a distant memory that will probably never be duplicated.

Brandon Marshall is up, as expected. No other major surprises here, although Hillis is a healthy scratch. The Broncos don't have another lead blocker.
