Coach Josh McDaniels confirmed that the Broncos will move away from their traditional zone-blocking scheme in 2010.
The Broncos have used the one-cut scheme since 1995, but struggled mightily in short yardage last year while Knowshon Moreno averaged just 3.8 yards per carry. Look for the Broncos to add some bigger offensive linemen as they go to a power running scheme. The change should help Moreno.

ESPN.com's Bill Williamson expects the Broncos to "fully move away" from their traditional zone-blocking scheme following the departure of OL coach Rick Dennison.
RBs coach Bobby Turner is expected to follow Dennison out the door, and Josh McDaniels was already moving toward a power-blocking scheme. After the offensive line struggled mightily down the stretch, McDaniels will likely search for bigger options at left guard and center this offseason. Knowshon Moreno, a strong inside runner, would benefit from the added size up front.

Knowshon Moreno totaled 50 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries and caught three passes for 48 yards in Week 17 against the Chiefs.
Moreno struggled down the stretch, averaging just 2.6 yards on his final 65 carries, but caught three passes in each of the final four games and finishes his rookie season with 1,160 total yards along with nine scores. With an improved offensive line, he could have RB2 potential as a sophomore. The big-play ability isn't there yet, however. Moreno, who ran 4.6 coming out of Georgia, had just two carries for 20+ yards all season. He also needs to improve his consistency in pass protection and short-yardage situations.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels is calling out his offensive line this week, laying the blame for the running game's recent woes at their feet.
Knowshon Moreno has taken the brunt of the criticism from outside the team, but he's simply had nowhere to run with the Broncos losing the line of scrimmage battle. On a positive note, the last time the line opened up running lanes was when they rushed for 245 yards at Kansas City four weeks ago. They draw the Chiefs again this week.

Correll Buckhalter (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Buckhalter injured his leg on the opening kickoff last week and struggled with mobility thereafter. He'll split touches with Knowshon Moreno in a favorable matchup against the Chiefs this week.

Knowshon Moreno rushed nine times for 18 yards and added three catches for 17 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Eagles.
Moreno's struggles in all facets of the running game continued as he averaged less than three yards per carry for the third straight game. He just can't get to the second level. His touchdown came when the Eagles left him wide open on a check down in the middle of the game. If Moreno can't get more than four yards a carry against the Chiefs next week, he has a serious problem.
