According to Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker, 18-year-old left-hander Yusei Kikuchi has scheduled a press conference this weekend to announce whether he will pitch in the United States.
According to Newman, Kikuchi has scheduled the press conference for 11:00 am JST on Sunday, which is 10:00 pm EST on Saturday in the United States. The Red Sox, Dodgers, Giants, Rangers, Yankees, Mets, Indians and Mariners have all expressed interest in the hard-throwing southpaw, but recent reports out of Japan suggest that he will begin his professional career in his homeland. Newman cites multiple sources out of Japan saying that the soonest he will make a decision is October 24. According to Nikkan Sports, Kikuchi has a self-imposed deadline of October 26. Kikuchi, whose fastball has been clocked at 96 MPH, is currently weighing whether to skip the Nippon Professional Baseball draft to play in the United States. The Red Sox, Dodgers, Giants, Rangers, Yankees, Mets, Indians and Mariners have all expressed varying degrees of interest in the Japanese southpaw.
