Bankruptcy court judge Redfield T. Baum has approved the NHL's bid to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes for $140 million.
Wayne Gretzky, who owned a small portion of the team, was the only party not to join in the agreement. However, Gretzky did not formally object to the sale. The NHL is expected to attempt to sell the Coyotes to an owner who will not relocate them in the near future. Phoenix reportedly lost $67 million last season and it remains to be seen if the team can become financially viable.

Phoenix Coyotes' owner Jerry Moyes is reportedly close to selling the team to the NHL.
Judge Redfield T. Baum still has to approve of the deal and former coach Wayne Gretzky, who has a $22.5 million claim in the case, needs to agree to the terms as well. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly hopes the league will be able to sell the organization to an owner that will keep them in the desert. Stay tuned.

The City of Glendale has spent $2.1 million to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix.
The City of Glendale told bankruptcy Judge Redfield T. Baum that they could lose $500 million if the hockey team left. "We had to do what was best for our long-term future," Mayor Elaine Scruggs said. "Certainly, no expense was being spared by the other side."

The NHL will be back in court in Phoenix on Oct. 26 to see what it will take for the Coyotes to be sold back to the NHL.
The bankruptcy court wants the NHL to better its bid and take care of all the creditors equally. Stay tuned.

The Phoenix Coyotes could sell out their home opener on Saturday.
This will be amazing as it was not even sure that the Coyotes would remain in Phoenix as late as a month ago. The turmoil surrounding the Coyotes bankruptcy sale has put a huge dent in promoting the team as no one would buy season tickets this summer. It's good to see that there is still interest in the sport in Phoenix and hopefully the fans will be treated to a great game and come back.

Dave Tippett will become the next head coach of the Coyotes, according to ESPN.com.
Coach and icon Wayne Gretzky resigned from his position earlier today. The team is expected to make a formal announcement at 6 pm EST.
