The Australian Associated Press is reporting that Stuart Appleby will play in next week's Australian Masters instead of the season-ending Children's Miracle Network Classic on the PGA Tour.
Less than two weeks ago, Appleby, who is now 134th on the money list, told Golf Channel that the Frys.com Open was to be his final start in the U.S., but then he popped up in the field for the Viking Classic. Although he still has until 5:00 p.m. ET this Friday to commit to the Disney stop, he is willing to accept conditional status for 2010, which along with his career resume should draw in the neighborhood of 25 starts anyway. "My last talk with him, [he said] he was coming home this week," said his manager, Wayne Smith. "As far as I know that hasn't changed. He's told me he's definitely playing the Masters." Appleby could still use a career earnings exemption, but that is unlikely given that he's only 38 and not dropping all the way down into Past Champion status. |
