Ernie Els carded a final round of 9-under-par 63 and finished in second place at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China.
Els started the day in eighth place, but a sizzling opening nine of 6-under-par 30 moved him up within a stroke of the lead. A long birdie-putt at the 11th hole tied him for the lead and he then played most of the back nine in a duel with Phil Mickelson for the lead. Els went into the par-5 final hole with a one-stroke lead, but a poor approach to the green found the water, which resulted in a bogey. Mickelson then took the lead for a final time moments later, with a 7-foot birdie at the par-3 17th hole. Still, it was a memorable round for Els as he tied the course record that had been set by Daisuke Maruyama earlier in the day.

Ernie Els and Mike Weir defeated Zach Johnson and Justin Leonard by a score of 5 & 3 in Match 20 at the Presidents Cup.
Weir played well early then Els caught on fire as the International side didn't lose a single hole. The match was the third one to start, but it was the first one over and it pulled the International side within two points of the Americans. Els now has a career 8-3-1 record in Four-Ball at the Presidents Cup and Weir improved his career record to 7-2.

Ernie Els and Mike Weir came from behind to beat Jim Furyk and Anthony Kim 2-up in four-ball action in Match 8 at the President's Cup.
The Internationals rode birdies at 16 and 17 to a 1-up lead before the Americans conceded Weir's eagle at the 18th. Weir needed two putts to secure the point, which briefly evened the President's Cup at 4-1/2s. Els is now a career 7-3-1 in four-ball and the first International to two wins this week. Weir improved his four-ball record to 6-2-0.

Ernie Els starts the week as the 22nd ranked player in the FedExCup Finals at THE TOUR Championship.
The two results that moved Els into the Finals were a T-6 at the PGA Championship and T-2 at The Barclays. He has played on the East Lake course in THE TOUR Championship six times and has finished in the Top 10 in four of those starts.

Ernie Els posted a second round of 2-over-par 73 and missed the cut at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Els started on the back nine and opened with two bogeys and by the turn he was 3-over-par for the round. He did rebound off his bogey at the 18th with back-to-back birdies to start the front nine, but he was well off the cut line at that point, so another bogey at the par-3 9th hole really didn't make any difference. Els does have enough points to advance to next week's BMW Championship at Cog Hill G.C. near Chicago.

Ernie Els carded a final round of 5-under-par 66 and finished in a four-way tie for second place at The Barclays.
Els was 3-under-par on the opening nine and after stringing back-to-back birdies starting at the 13th hole he found himself in a four-way tie for the lead. He parred in the remaining holes and then had to wait to see if he would get in a playoff, but Heath Slocum drained a 21-foot par-putt on the last hole to avoid a playoff and win the championship. The T-2 is Els sixth Top 10 of the season and it is his best finish on the PGA Tour since his victory at last year's Honda Classic.
