Rickie Fowler carded a final round of 6-under-par 64 and finished in a tie for second place after a three-way playoff at the Frys.com Open.
Fowler was red hot at the start of his round, and after his ace at the par-3 5th hole, he was 5-under-par on the round, with a one-stroke lead in the tournament. Troy Matteson took the lead back moments later and it was a duel between the two until Fowler bogeyed the final hole to give Matteson a two-stroke advantage. Matteson couldn't hold the lead over the closing holes and the third playoff of the Fall Series was created with Fowler, Matteson and Jamie Lovemark. All of the players parred the first playoff hole, but on the next hole Mattteson won by putting his approach within two-feet and then watching as neither Fowler of Lovemark could get closer than 35-feet on their approach. It was a disappointing loss for Fowler, but in the last two weeks he has earned enough money to ensure conditional status on the Tour next season and a place in the finals of Q-School. The P-2 finish also gets him into field of next week's Viking Classic, where he will have a chance to better his status.
