Justin Leonard posted a final round of 5-under-par 67 and finished in second place after a three-way playoff at the Children's Miracle Network Classic.
On the front nine, Leonard and George McNeill were able to card 4-under-par scores, which left them on top of the leaderboard. On the back nine, a seven-foot birdie-putt at the 11th hole gave Leonard a two-stroke lead, however after that he posted seven pars in a row, which created a three-way playoff with McNeill and Stephen Ames for the championship. On the opening playoff hole Leonard found the putting surface, but from long distance. His first putt came some 15-feet short of the hole and his second putt, to continue in the playoff, also came up short. The playoff ended on the next hole, when Ames par won the championship after McNeill's par-putt to extend the match lipped-out. The P-2 finish is the sixth Top 10 for Leoanrd this season and it his best finish on the Tour since his playoff win at the 2008 Stanford St. Jude Championship. |
