Due to a series of complications with getting on a flight to Spain to compete in this week's Castello Masters, Angel Cabrera was late for his tee time and was disqualified.
After finishing second in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda, Cabrera hopped on a plane, but it was grounded for "technical problems." A second private jet was commissioned from Atlanta but it never left the ground due to "bureaucratic problems." The third plane from New York eventually picked up Cabrera but the golfer was one hour behind schedule upon arriving in Spain. A helicopter awaited his arrival and took him to the course, but his playing partners had already gone off. "It has been a shame and a disappointment not being able to arrive on time," Cabrera said (translating from Marca.com), "but there are situations that we cannot control." Alas, strong winds forced a delay after his grouping had played just one hole. Cabrera added that his intention was to play in the event all along, with his Spanish friends and because his son, Frederico, is in the field. Angel is scheduled to compete in next week's Volvo Match Play Championship. |
