Charles Howell III carded a final round of 2-under-par 69 and finished in a tie for second place at the Transitions Championship.
Howell III made the turn at 1-under-par, but then he rocketed up the leaderboard, with three birdies in four holes, to get to 9-under-par for the tournament. He briefly held the lead, then back-to-back bogeys starting at the 16th hole, left him two-strokes off the lead. Howell got within a stroke, after Retief Goosen bogeyed the 16th hole, but Goosen parred the final two holes to win the championship. Howell III is scheduled to play in next week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, where his best finish at the event is a T-8 in 2005.
