Phil Mickelson carded a final round of 3-under-par 69 and won the WGC-HSBC Champions by a stroke over Ernie Els.
On the front nine, Mickelson increased his lead to three-strokes after a 3-foot birdie-putt at the 3rd hole, but his problems off the tee caught up to him and he posted consecutive bogeys on the next two holes. He birdied the 7th hole to get back to even-par for the round, but at the turn his lead had shrunk to a single stroke. A hard charging Ernie Els soon tied for the lead and for most of the back nine both players dueled for the lead. The lead tied for the last time after Mickelson made a long putt at the 16th hole that curled in for par, then Els moments later put his approach to 18th hole into the water, which resulted in a bogey. Mickelson took the lead with a birdie at the par-3 17th and then parred the par-5 final hole to win the championship. The title is the third career international championship for Mickelson and it his second World Golf Championship victory this year.

Phil Mickelson posted a third round score of 5-under-par 67 and has a two-stroke lead over Tiger Woods and Nick Watney at the WGC-HSBC in Shanghai, China.
On the front nine, Mickelson was 2-under-par, but at the turn he was two-strokes behind Tiger Woods. The back nine saw Mickelson put consecutive birdies on the card starting at the 14th hole to take a one-stroke lead, as Woods sputtered on the closing holes, and a kick-in birdie at the par-5 18th hole expanded his lead out to two strokes. On Sunday, Mickelson will be looking for his third European Tour championship and his second HSBC Champions title.

Phil Mickelson defeated Retief Goosen by a score of 2 & 1 in Match 33 of the Presidents Cup.
Goosen never led in the match, but he was able to square the match up with a birdie at the 13th hole. Mickelson then birdied the 15th and he finished this year's Presidents Cup when he holed an 8-foot birdie-putt at the 17th hole for the victory. The victory brought the final point total for this year's Presidents Cup to 19 1/2 for the Americans vs. 14 1/2 for the Internationals. Mickelson finished the week with a 4-0-1 record.

Phil Mickelson and Sean O'Hair halved Match 22 with Vijay Singh and Tim Clark.
The Americans never led in the match and it wasn't looking good for the team when the Internationals were 2-up at the 11th hole. The Americans then rallied to win the next two holes to square the match. Both teams threatened to go ahead in the closing holes, but neither team could gain the advantage in the dim light of dusk. The halve of the match moved the overnight lead for the Americans to 12 1/2 to 9 1/2 over the Internationals and it left the the Americans needing only five points in Sunday's singles matches to retain the Presidents Cup.

Phil Mickelson and Sean O'Hair defeated Retief Goosen and Camilo Villegas 5&3 in foursomes in Match 13 of the Presidents Cup.
The international team took a quick 1-up lead at the 3rd hole, but the Americans took the next two holes to take a 1-up lead. Goosen and Villegas squared the match on the 7th hole, but then a par at the 8th and a chip-in by O'Hair at the 9th gave the Americans a 2-up lead at the turn. The lead expanded to 3-up after a par for the Americans at the 11th hole, then O'Hair sank a birdie-putt at the 13th to kill any hopes for the International team. Mickelson is now unbeaten in his three matches in this year's Presidents Cup and the victory expanded the American lead to 7-1/2 points over 5-1/2 points for the International team.

Phil Mickelson and Justin Leonard defeated Retief Goosen and Adam Scott 3&2 in four-ball play in Match 7 at the President's Cup.
After striking the final putt that missed on Thursday, fate had Leonard teeing off first today. He then drained a 10-footer for birdie at the hole. The Internationals grabbed a 1-up lead with a Goosen birdie at the 5th, but the U.S. promptly evened the match when Mickelson wedged from the rough to within inches on the reachable par-4 6th. Another stiffed iron on the 7th led to another hole win and the momentum. Leonard birdied 14 and 16 to secure the first point on the board for either team today. Mickelson is the first golfer with two wins on the board.
