 Brian Gay-G- GolferSep. 22 - 9:52 am et
Brian Gay will enter THE TOUR Championship as the 17th ranked player in the field.
Gay got hot in the middle of the season, with a victory the Verizon Heritage then a few weeks later he added the St. Jude Classic title to his resume. In the Playoffs, he started out well with a T-12 at The Barclays, but in the last two events he has finished well back in the field. The will be his first time at THE TOUR Championship.

Brian Gay posted a final round of 4-under-par 66 and won the St. Jude Classic by five-strokes over Davis Toms and Bryce Molder.
Gay started the day with a one-stroke lead, but after dropping in a 29-foot birdie putt at the 6th hole, his lead had expanded to five-strokes. Bogeys at the 7th and 10th holes briefly cut the lead to four-strokes, but Gay never made the big mistake and no one in the upper part of the field could mount a challenge. A five-foot birdie at the final hole widened the margin back out to five-strokes and Gay had won his second tournament in his last five starts on the Tour. The wire-to-wire victory marks the first time that a player has won the Verizon Heritage and the St. Jude in the same season. The St. Jude championship also means that Gay has earned the last spot in next week's U.S. Open at Bethpage Black and that he has extended his full-exempt status on the PGA Tour through the 2012 season.

The weather continues to delay the final round of the St. Jude Classic.
Yesterday, the Tour had moved up the tee times for Sunday's final round in hope of beating a storm, but rain wash away those plans and now the Tour is hoping to start the round at noon EDT. The forecast for the late afternoon does include a 60% of heavy rain at around 4-5 PM.

Brian Gay posted a third round of 4-under-par 66 and leads by a stroke over Bryce Molder at the St. Jude Classic Presented by FedEx.
Gay bogeyed his final two holes of his second round, but on Saturday he put three birdies on the card in his first six holes to take a three-stroke lead on the field. He held the three-stroke advantage for most of the back nine, but a bogey on the final hole brought about a two-shot swing that shrunk his overnight lead to a single stroke. Storms are predicted on Sunday afternoon, so the PGA Tour has moved up the tee times to 8 AM EDT and will use threesomes starting at the 1st and 10th holes in an effort to get the final round in. Gay will be looking on Sunday for his second victory on the season and the third career championship on the PGA Tour.

Brian Gay chased his opening 64 with a 4-under-par 31-35=66 in the second round of the St. Jude Classic, finishing with a three-stroke clubhouse lead.
Gay hit just 11 GIR but took just 23 putts en route to another seven birdies at TPC Southwind today. A pair of bogeys at 17 and 18 thwarted a lead that was beginning to resemble his runaway at the Heritage. He needs a victory this week to get into the field at next week's U.S. Open.

Brian Gay blistered TPC Southwind for a 6-under-par 33-31=64 in the opening round of the St. Jude Classic.
Typical Gay - 14 GIR, 26 putts, seven birdies. Just like non-winners Tim Clark and Briny Baird, Gay continues to give himself birdie chances, but he's clearly risen to the next level with two victories in the last 16 months. His short tee ball prevents him from contending everywhere but daily leagues should hop aboard immediately in Memphis.
