Jim Furyk signed for an even-par 35-36=71 after his opening round of the Northern Trust Open.
Furyk hit 12 GIR and took 30 putts at Riviera today. He was 2-under through 10 before a double bogey at the par-4 2nd hole derailed his round. This is his first start anywhere since winning the unofficial Chevron World Challenge in early December.

Jim Furyk recorded a one-stroke victory at the Chevron World Challenge.
What a week. In the wake of the turbulent allegations involving Tiger Woods, Furyk, Adam Scott and Robert Allenby rose to overdue victories on three continents. At Sherwood CC today, Furyk drained a 40-footer for par on the 71st hole, and then birdied the last to clip Woods' replacement, Graeme McDowell. It's Furyk's first win since the four-man Grand Slam of Golf in 2008. It was also an unusual day for hole-outs, as Steve Stricker and Stewart Cink both jarred their approaches for eagles at the par-4 10th hole. Later, Camilo Villegas holed his second on the par-5 13th for an albatross.

Jim Furyk spun a 7-under-par 34-30=64 in the opening round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
With three victories and over $2.1 million in earnings at this event, Furyk's success here is unmatched. Today he hit 15 GIR and took just 26 putts. He also jarred his approach from 92 yards for eagle on the par-4 7th hole, helping him earn an early co-lead with Scott Piercy.

Jim Furyk and Justin Leonard beat Ernie Els and Adam Scott by a score of 4 & 2 in Match 14 of the Presidents Cup.
The match was actually close through the opening nine holes with each side winning a hole and at the turn the match was all-square. The Americans took the lead with a birdie at the opening hole of the back nine and then expanded the lead with a birdie at 12 and a par at the 15th hole. The match ended on the 16th hole with another birdie by the Americans, which extended the American lead to 8 1/2 to 5 1/2 points for the International team. The afternoon pairing for Four-Ball will see Furyk paired with Anthony Kim and Leonard will be teamed up with Zach Johnson.

Jim Furyk and Justin Leonard halved Match 6 of today's foursomes with Retief Goosen and Y.E. Yang at the President's Cup.
This is the one that got away as the Americans were dormie with two holes to play. The Internationals were actually 3-up after five before the U.S. won four straight, punctuated by Furyk's chip-in at the 9th. Alas, Leonard will have to sleep on missing a 30-incher at the last that would have clinched a full point. The halve completes today's play with the Americans in the lead 3-1/2 to 2-1/2. Friday's four-ball is scheduled to begin at 10:55 a.m. PT and all 24 golfers will be in action. Tomorrow's weather should be a carbon copy of today's. The temperature was cooler than expected, but light winds and no rain allow true conditions.

Jim Furyk enters THE TOUR Championship as the number three ranked player in the FedExCup Finals.
Furyk tired out towards the end of last season, so he changed his schedule to be ready for the FedExCup Playoffs. The move has worked well because in the Playoffs he has finished with a T-15 at The Barclays, a T-8 at the Deutsche Bank and a T-2 at the BMW Championship. He has played the East Lake course five times, with two top-10s and a best finish of second place in 2006.
