Ricky Barnes carded a bogey-free 33-33=66 in his opening round of the Northern Trust Open.
After a 2009 season during which his only top-45 finish, other than the co-runner-up at the quirky quagmire that was the U.S. Open, was a T39 at the Frys.com, Barnes has improved considerably with his putting. Entering the week with 13 rounds logged in 2010, he sat 29th in putting (compared to 180th in 67 rounds in '09). Today he drained five birdies thanks to a relatively tidy 28 putts (13 GIR). Dare we say that he just might be a sleeper in fantasy formats that reward positive results ...

Ricky Barnes carded a bogey-free, 5-under-par 33-32=65 in the opening round of the Travelers Championship.
Like dozens in the field, Barnes took advantage of the ideal scoring conditions, hitting 12 (of 14) fairways and 13 GIR at TPC River Highlands. Anyone expecting an immediate return to pre-U.S. Open form will have to wait at least another day.

Ricky Barnes shot a final-round 6-over-par 76 in the final round of the U.S. Open, finishing two strokes adrift of champion, Lucas Glover.
With seven bogeys, Barnes got in his own way, but ran through the tape to post his first-ever top-10 on the PGA Tour. He played the last six holes in 1-under. The T-2 gets him into next year's Masters and U.S. Open. He'll also climb way up the special money list used to give two golfers exemptions into the British Open next month. He also stakes a major claim for Rookie of the Year honors.

Ricky Barnes and Lucas Glover are tied at 7-under-par one hole into their final round of the U.S. Open.
Play was suspended for darkness shortly before 8:00 p.m. ET today. All golfers were on the course and will resume play at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Barnes and Glover will sleep on a five-stroke co-lead. The weather forecast includes more clouds than rain, an encouraging sign. Regardless how dry it is, the wind is expected to howl out of the north, which will play havoc with airborne balls, but would dry out Bethpage Black. It would be an achievement if Barnes or Glover break par in their final 18.

Ricky Barnes shot 8-under-par 67-65=132 in the first two rounds of the U.S. Open, setting a record for low aggregate in the opening 36 holes.
Barnes has hit 31 GIR and taken just 59 putts, burying nine birdies at Bethpage Black. Less than an hour after Lucas Glover had matched the all-time opening 36-hole aggregate of 133, Barnes stands alone. Larry Nelson owns the record for the low final 36 holes, also with a 132. The USGA record book does not list low aggregate for middle 36 (second/third rounds). With inclement on the way, Glover and Barnes are probably done for the day.

Rickey Barnes was added to the field on Monday of the Shell Houston Open.
Barnes has made four out of his seven cuts this season, but his highest finish is a T-53 at the Buick Invitational.
