Nick Watney signed for a disappointing 1-under-par 35-36=71 following his opening round of the Farmers Insurance Open on the North Course at Torrey Pines.
The defending champion hit 14 GIR but required a whopping 33 putts. He had just two birdies. Watney opened last year's victory with a 69 on Torrey North, and then followed it with another 69 on the South.

Nick Watney carded a bogey-free, 6-under-par 33-34=67 in the opening round of the SBS Championship.
Watney knew he'd be in Maui this week after winning last year's Buick Invitational. He missed just two of the massive greens at Kapalua's Plantation Course and took 30 putts, draining six birdies in the round.

Nick Watney carded an opening round of 8-under-par 64 and holds a two-stroke advantage at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China.
Watney started on the back nine and he made the turn at 6-under-par after posting four birdies and an eagle. He quickly racked up three birdies in his first four holes of the front nine and it looked like not only the course record was going to fall, but he might have a chance of round of 59. Watney then started to par the rest of the holes, until a bogey at the final hole cost him a chance to break the course record and cut his lead down to two strokes.

Nick Watney will play this week at THE TOUR Championship as the 12th ranked player in the FedExCup Finals.
Watney was one of the hottest players on the Tour at the start of the season and he added his second career PGA Tour title to his resume when he won the Buick Invitational. He had a forgettable second half of the year, but he started to play better in the Playoffs, with a T-6 at The Barclays being the highlight. This will be his first start in THE TOUR Championship.

Nick Watney completed 36 holes of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in even-par 144, missing the cut by one stroke.
Considering he won the Zurich in 2007 and has played lights out all year, this is a shock. He hit 25 GIR and made 10 birdies, but six bogeys and two doubles provided the early bounce. It's his first missed cut since last year's Deutsche Bank, and ends his consecutive cuts made streak at 14. Watney will try to start a new one at next week's Quail Hollow Championship, where he's cashed in all four career appearances.

Nick Watney carded a 4-under-par 67 in the second round of the Transitions Championship.
Good thing his iron game is so strong these days, because Watney hit just three (of 13) fairways at Copperhead today. No matter, as he found 14 GIR, leading to four birdies against zero bogeys. If you expected an emotional letdown after Doral, you can forget about that. With two rounds of the Transitions in the books, Watney is a co-leader in the clubhouse.
