Roland Thatcher posted a final round of 8-under-par 64 and finished in a three-way tie for second place at the Buick Open.
Thatcher went out early in the morning at 3-under-par on his opening nine, then he opened the back nine with three consecutive birdies. He added two birdies at the 14th and 16th hole and after his birdie at the 16th hole, he was briefly tied with Tiger Woods for the lead. Thatcher has been playing with medical extension (Q School/Nationwide Tour category) this year and today's check for $380,800 easily fulfilled the requirement of $144,520 to play in the Major Medical category for the rest of the 2009 season.

Thatcher's problems continue with the putter. He hit just 23 GIR and still needed 56 strokes on the greens. This leaves him with four starts on his medical extension (Q School/Nationwide Tour category) to earn $144,520. He'll now make the short jaunt to Michigan for next week's Buick Open.

Roland Thatcher shot 2-over-par 70-72=142 at the Travelers Championship, missing the 36-hole cut by five strokes.
Thatcher ranks as one of the better ball-strikers on tour, but he's had trouble finishing, evident again this week. Even though he hit a surprisingly low 22 GIR, he still needed 61 putts. He's now down to six starts on his medical extension (Q School/Nationwide Tour category) to earn $160,860. Of all the medicals running low on starts, Thatcher has the inside track in terms of odds to meet his goal.
