The field for the season-ending Children's Miracle Network Classic will be published on Friday afternoon, but Michael Sim might not qualify on merit.
Sim might wonder if he's done something personally to deserve the unfortunate series of events, literally, that have transpired since clinching his promotion to the PGA Tour. His only start thus far has been at Turning Stone. He was scheduled to play the Viking when it was canceled and may not crack the field at Disney in two weeks unless given a sponsor exemption. If last year is a fair comparison, then the cut-off for the 128-deep field will fall near Sim's priority ranking below the Q School/Nationwide Tour grad category. Of course, he's all set for 2010, but his promotion failed to gain any traction this fall.

Michael Sim shot an 8-under-par 31-33=64 in the opening round of the Nationwide Tour Championship, where he will sleep on a three-stroke lead.
Show-off. Sim rattled off eight consecutive birdies from holes 4-11, and left his attempt for the ninth straight about two revolutions short and in the jaws. (He had 10 birdies in the round.) The streak is one short of Omar Uresti's all-time Nationwide Tour record at the 1994 Shreveport Open. Sim's consolation prize was the course record at Daniel Island's Ralston Creek Course. He co-led the field with 15 GIR and 25 putts, a crazy ratio anywhere, much less at the season-ending decider. With fully-exempt status on the 2010 PGA Tour locked up a Nationwide Tour season record $536,142 in earnings, Sim has nothing to prove except perhaps illustrating a point to the PGA Tour that the brass should reconsider the rules and regs of the automatic promotion Sim earned two months ago.

Michael Sim has not yet received a sponsor exemption for next week's Frys.com Open.
Six of the eight sponsor exemptions for the Frys.com have been distributed (Rich Beem, Rickie Fowler, Jamie Lovemark, Leif Olson, Jeev Milkha Singh, Kirk Triplett) and as unlikely as it seems right now, there are still a few scenarios that could result in Sim receiving one, too. If he isn't offered one of the remaining two, his next chance would occur if Fowler or Singh place inside the top-10 at the Timberlake Open. Currently, Sim is the 12th alternate and would compete in next week's Nationwide Tour Championship if he doesn't climb into the Frys.com. The Aussie should have no problem making the Viking Classic in two weeks on merit.

The opening round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship was suspended by darkness.
Just six golfers, including Michael Sim, will return to Atunyote at 7:30 a.m. ET tomorrow to complete their opening rounds. Making his first start since receiving an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour, Sim is 4-over-par through 15 holes. Friday's weather forecast includes a high temperature in the upper-50s and light winds, but rain is expected in the afternoon hours.

Michael Sim carded a final round of 4-under-par 67 and won the Christmas in October Classic on the Nationwide Tour.
The championship is the third this season for Sim and he has earned the "battlefield" promotion to the PGA Tour by accomplishing the feat. The PGA Tour is starting it's Playoffs next week at the Barclays, so the soonest he can play on the PGA Tour is at the Turning Stone Resort Championship.
