Jaxon Brigman shot 6-under-par 70-69-68-75=282 in the first stage of Q School at Lantana (TX) GC, advancing to the second stage with 25 others.
You might recall that Brigman was the guy that signed for a 66 in the final round of the final stage of Q School in 1999 when he actually shot a 65. The error bounced him from earning his first PGA Tour card to one stroke too high. Brigman returned to the finals twice since but hasn't come nearly as close. He finished T-22 this week on the number, of course. Nick Malinowski was the medalist at 16-under 272. Others of note also moving include former PGA Tour members Kelly Grunewald, Jin Park, Alex Aragon and Michael Connell. Meanwhile, it's the end of the line for bomber Tony Finau, who is a contestant on "Big Break Disney Golf," and Raymond Floyd's son, Robert, who withdrew after opening with rounds of 77 and 80. This was the last of 13 first-stage sites to conclude. All six sites for the second stage will be held November 18-21. |
