Henrik Stenson has chosen not to join the PGA Tour in 2009, Rotoworld has learned in an email from a PGA Tour representative.
Although Stenson's unofficial earnings in 2008 exceeded the amount needed to qualify for membership under the Top 125-Nonmembers criteria, the Swede is sitting on a three-year window of opportunity via his 2007 WGC-Match Play title. At this time a year ago, it was a bit of a surprise that he passed on 2008 membership, particularly in a Ryder Cup year, but he looked like a genius when he locked up a spot on the team anyway and didn't have to accrue starts in the FedExCup Playoffs like Ian Poulter just to meet the tour minimum. He'll play in 8-10 events on the PGA Tour next year, including all four majors, and remains one of the most reliable hired guns in fantasy formats.
