Nicholas Thompson carded a third round of 5-under-par 65 and sits in 11th place at the Frys.con Open.
It looked like an ordinary round for Thompson until the par-5 11th hole, where he took a 3-wood from 261 yards and holed the shot out for an ultra rare double-eagle. Two holes later at the par-3 13th he took a seven-iron and then aced the hole to move to 11-under-par for the tournament. Thompson started the week in 145th place on the Tour's Money List, so the double dose of good fortune came at an opportune time as he trys to finish in the Top 125 and retain his card for the 2010 season.

Nicholas Thompson shot 2-under-par 69-71=140 at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, missing the cut by two strokes.
Nitro entered the week 143rd in earnings, so this leaves him with just three opportunities to secure his 2010 PGA Tour card. Other notables in danger of losing fully-exempt status that failed to cash in chips in Vegas include Ken Duke (3-under 139; 155th in earnings), Jeff Maggert (141; 120th), Joe Ogilvie (142, 131st), Rocco Mediate (143; 149th), Brad Faxon (143; 227th), Peter Lonard (144; 166th), David Duval (146; 119th), Eric Axley (147, 208th), Todd Hamilton (152; 127th) and Cliff Kresge (72-WD, 142nd).

Nicholas Thompson blitzed Redstone's Tournament Course for a 7-under-par 64 in the opening round of the Shell Houston Open.
Benefited by his his late tee time, Nitro was able to avoid Thursday's mess. In ideal conditions today, he hit 14 GIR and needed a mere 25 putts, carding eight birdies along the way. Nicholas Thompson withdrew on Monday afternoon from the the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
