| Jose Lopez's 2010 Profile | | In the majors since age 20 and an everyday player since 22, Lopez’s approach at the plate hasn’t improved a lick while batting nearly 3,000 times. His walk totals over the past four seasons are 26, 20, 27 and 24, his batting averages have fluctuated wildly despite a very good contact rate, and the only real difference in his production has been the addition of more home-run power. Smacking 25 homers as a 25-year-old who calls pitcher-friendly Safeco Park home is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but Lopez has yet to crack even an .800 OPS and racked up nice RBI totals last season almost by default, despite hitting in the middle of the Mariners’ league-worst lineup. His power makes him a top-15 option at second base, but Lopez’s youth overstates his breakout potential. Updated Aug. 31: According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Rockies are interested in Jose Lopez. Ian Stewart was placed on the disabled list with strained ribcage on Monday, so the Rockies are apparently looking for another infielder. Lopez has had a miserable season, batting just .241 with seven homers, 48 RBI and a 605 OPS, but could slot in at third base.
