Mark Loretta's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth on Thursday night completed an improbable two-out comeback as the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals 3-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the NLCS.
The Cardinals led 2-1 with two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the ninth, and Ryan Franklin seemed to have ended the game when he got James Loney to hit a routine liner to left. Yet, Matt Holliday muffed the play and turned it into a double. Two walks and a Ronnie Belliard RBI single later, pinch-hitter Loretta drove in Casey Blake for a walk-off victory. It was a crushing loss for the Cards, who now head back to St. Louis with their backs up against the wall. |
