Joba Chamberlain said Tuesday that he's hoping Andy Pettitte will return to the Yankees for the 2010 season.
"To see what he's done and the longevity he's had," said Chamberlain, "he's a great player and obviously we'd love to have him back." Pettitte is expected to spend a couple of weeks in reflection this winter before making a decision on whether to continue his career. He went 14-8 this past season with a 4.16 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 32 starts (194 2/3 innings).

 Andy Pettitte-S - Yankees Nov. 10 - 3:46 pm et

Chad Jennings of the Journal News writes that a return to the Astros is unlikely for Andy Pettitte.
"If we can improve our situation, we’ll try to do that, but at this point in time, we’re pretty much focused on the guys that we have right now and we’ll see what’s out there on the edges," said Astros general manager Ed Wade. "We can’t add appreciable payroll. We’ve indicated that publicly, our payroll is going to go in the opposite direction." Look for Pettitte to continue his year-to-year arrangement with the Yankees until he hangs up his cleats.

Manager Joe Girardi expects Andy Pettitte to start Game 6.
"If Andy physically feels good, he's going to go on Wednesday," said Girardi. "This is something that we talked about all throughout. We check with our guys. If he feels good, he's going." Pettitte will be going on three days' rest, something he hasn't done over the past two seasons. In fact, he has worked on extra rest in all four of his starts during October. For his career, Pettitte is 3-1 with a 2.88 ERA in five postseason starts on short-rest.

 CC Sabathia-S - Yankees Oct. 26 - 7:40 pm et

Sources told SI.com's Jon Heyman that both the Yankees and Phillies are likely to use three-man rotations to begin the World Series.
Heyman believes the Yankees will go with three men all of the way through, while the Phillies might change things up in Games 5 and 6, rather than use Pedro Martinez on short rest. It'd be an awfully risky strategy for both teams, given the recent history of starters on three days' rest. Maybe CC Sabathia can handle it OK, but who knows if the same will be true of Cliff Lee, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte. If Heyman is right, then Sabathia and Lee would match up in Games 1, 4 and 7.

Andy Pettitte yielded one run over 6 1/3 innings as the Yankees beat the Angels 5-2 on Sunday to advance to the World Series.
The Angels have an awful lot to be embarrassed about after another game full of shoddy defense and inept baserunning, but the Yankees really were the better team regardless. Pettitte was sharp again tonight and improved to 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA and a 15/3 K/BB ratio in three postseason starts. Aided plenty by eight walks and a couple of Angels errors in the two-run eighth inning, the Yankees won despite never picking up an extra-base hit tonight.

Saturday's Game 6 of the ALCS between the Angels and Yankees has been postponed due to rain.
The forecast called for rain throughout the evening, but that didn't stop the Yankees from opening the gates at 5 pm ET. Either way, the two teams will meet on Sunday night, with first pitch scheduled for 8:20 pm ET. Andy Pettitte will likely oppose Joe Saunders, but Jered Weaver is also an option for the assignment.
