Yankees re-signed LHP Andy Pettitte to a one-year, $11.75 million contract.
The price is certainly above market value, but the Yankees feel confident he can replicate or even top his stat line from this past season. The 37-year-old Pettitte went 14-8 in 2009 with a 4.16 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 32 starts. He'll serve as New York's No. 3 starter in 2010.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports the Yankees are closing in on a one-year, $12 million contract with left-hander Andy Pettitte.
It's a ridiculous sum to pay a 37-year-old pitcher, but the Yankees can afford to take care of their guys and are probably ecstatic to have struck a deal so early in the offseason. The left-handed Pettitte finished the 2009 season with a 4.16 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 14-8 record in 32 starts.

Andy Pettitte's agent, Randy Hendricks, said Monday that his client is "talking only to the Yankees" this winter.
The Yanks want Pettitte back to solidify the third spot in their starting rotation and he doesn't seem inclined to retire. The 37-year-old left-hander had a solid 2009 season, finishing with a 4.16 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 14-8 record. Talks should run smoothly and swiftly.

According to Pete Caldera of the Bergen Record, the Yankees' initial offer to Andy Pettitte "will be in excess of $10 million."
Let's hope Caldera's source is factoring incentives into that figure. Pettitte, 37, had a solid 2009 season, finishing with a 4.16 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 14-8 record, but there's no point in paying him over market value. Let's hope, for the Yankees' sake, that GM Brian Cashman and Co. are smarter than that.

Updating a previous item, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees have yet to make a formal offer to free agent Andy Pettitte.
According to an industry source, the Yankees intend to make their initial offer sometime today. The offer is believed to be a one-year contract worth more than $10 million. Pettitte has reportedly informed the Yankees of his desire to pitch again next season, making him a pretty good bet to return to the Bronx.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Andy Pettitte turned down a one-year contract from the Yankees worth around $10 million.
Though Pettitte turned down the Bombers' initial offer, the club privately believes the 37-year-old southpaw wants to continue to pitch in New York. According to the report, one National League official insisted that a deal would eventually get done. If Pettitte returns, which he almost certainly will, the Yankees are not expected to pursue free-agent John Lackey.
