 | | | | | | | General manager Alex Anthopoulos said that while he is open to bringing back Marco Scutaro, Rod Barajas and John McDonald, that doesn't mean it will happen.
"As much as I like John McDonald, Rod Barajas and Marco Scutaro, there might be alternatives that make this organization better and are the right alternatives for this team," said Anthopoulos. "We'd like to bring them back, (but) everything has to fit with respect to what the alternatives are and with respect to what their financial requirements are. I'm starting to get a pretty good handle on where their expectations are with respect to the market and what they feel their value might be." Among the impending free agents, Scutaro, 34, figures to drum up the most interest on the open market. As a Type A free agent, he could net the Blue Jays two first round draft picks if he turns down arbitration in order to sign with another team. | | | | | |

| Rod Barajas's 2009 Profile | | Another year, another season of a predictable production from the former Ranger. Barajas’ 2005 campaign in which he smacked 21 homers for Texas is long gone, and he’s settled back in to being a consistent low average hitter who hits a homer every 30 at-bats. With Gregg Zaun gone, Barajas is now the Blue Jays’ primary catcher, and he could be in line for more playing time than last year’s 349 at-bats. However, the signing of Michael Barrett could also destroy most of Barajas’ value, if Barrett is able to rebound from a pair of down years. Prospect J.P. Arencibia could also be ready for the majors in the second half of the season, further cutting into Barajas’ playing time. The playing time risk alone is enough to limit Barajas’ value, but his poor batting average/high at-bat combination is such a significant detriment that he’s not worth more than a few dollars in AL-only leagues, despite his reliable power numbers.Updated Jun. 30: Rod Barajas (ankle) finished 1-for-3 with an RBI Monday in his return to the Blue Jays' starting lineup. Barajas was nearly placed on the disabled list over the weekend, but promised the Blue Jays medical staff he could play through the pain. After running the bases without pain or discomfort Monday, he was added to the starting lineup. Look for Barajas and Raul Chavez to rotate time behind the plate until the All-Star break. | | Year | Tm | AB | H | AVG | HR | RBI | RUNS | SB | OBP | SLUG | TB | OPS | | Proj | TOR | 372 | 87 | .234 | 13 | 50 | 46 | 0 | .286 | .395 | 147 | .681 | | 2008 | TOR | 349 | 87 | .249 | 11 | 49 | 44 | 0 | .294 | .410 | 143 | .704 | | 2007 | PHI | 122 | 28 | .230 | 4 | 10 | 16 | 0 | .352 | .393 | 48 | .745 | | 2006 | TEX | 344 | 88 | .256 | 11 | 41 | 49 | 0 | .298 | .410 | 141 | .708 |
