Braves signed Tim Hudson to a three-year, $28 million contract extension.
He'll take home $9 million in each of the next three seasons. The new contract also includes a fourth-year club option for 2013 worth $9 million, with a $1 million buyout. Considering the weak market for starting pitching, Hudson could have earned more on the open market, however he decided to grant the Braves a sizable "hometown discount" in order to stay in Atlanta. Hudson was 2-1 with a 3.61 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over seven starts in September after returning from Tommy John surgery. The 34-year-old right-hander is 11th among active pitchers with 148 career wins. |
