Joe Frisaro of MLB.com suggests that Mike Jacobs could be back in the National League next year.
Frisaro covered Jacobs during his time with the Marlins, so it's unclear whether this is just a fleeting thought or if there is a trade in the works with a National League team. Jacobs struggled in his first season with the Royals in 2009, batting .228/.297/.401 with 19 home runs and 61 RBI, making him a prime candidate to be non-tendered in December.

 Mike Jacobs-DH - Royals Oct. 2 - 1:25 pm et

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star doesn't see Mike Jacobs returning to the Royals.
Jacobs was acquired for his 30-home run power, but his .226 batting average with 18 home runs don't come close to justifying his $3.3 million contract. Arbitration eligible, the Royals are going to need to cut costs to be able to bring in new players and maintain a payroll around $70 million. Jacobs has negligible trade value, making him a prime non-tender candidate.

Mike Jacobs went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI as the Royals topped the A's on Saturday evening in Kansas City.
Jacobs is batting a paltry .231 this season with 15 home runs and 31 RBI. Those aren't the kind of digits you want from your designated hitter.

Mike Jacobs delivered a solo homer in the ninth inning on Monday night to lift the Royals past the Tigers 4-3.
A pretty typical night for Jacobs, as his home run was the only time he reached base in four at-bats, but he made his one hit count. Jacobs is hitting .225 with 11 homers and 28 RBI.

Royals DH Mike Jacobs said he is adjusting his batting stance in hopes of turning around his subpar season.
Jacobs started the season poorly and has grown worse, hitting just .159 over his last 29 games.

Mike Jacobs went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Thursday's loss to the Astros.
Jacobs is hitting .175 with one RBI in 63 at-bats this month. There was good reason last winter to think the Royals would do just as well with Kila Ka'aihue or Ryan Shealy at first base, but all that excess cash was simply burning a hole in Dayton Moore's pocket.
