Reds agreed to terms with catcher Ramon Hernandez on a one-year, $3 million contract.
The contract also includes a $3.25 million vesting option for 2011 if Hernandez plays in 120 games. Limited to just 81 games in 2009 due to knee surgery in July, Hernandez batted .258/.336/.362 with five home runs and 37 RBI. Hernandez also made 21 starts at first base while Joey Votto was on the disabled list. Ultimately, Ryan Hanigan may have been a better and cheaper option, especially defensively, but the Reds like the pop that a healthy Hernandez can potentially add to the lineup.

 Ramon Hernandez-C - Reds Nov. 16 - 11:09 am et

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Reds have re-signed Ramon Hernandez to a one-year contract.
Full terms were not disclosed, but the new deal reportedly includes a vesting option for 2011 that becomes guaranteed if he appears in 120 games. The Reds declined Hernandez's $8.5 million option for 2010, buying him out for $1 million, but they were expected to negotiate a new deal all along. Hernandez, 33, batted .258/.336/.362 with five home runs and 37 RBI in 287 at-bats for the Reds in 2009, but missed nearly two months following surgery on his left knee in July.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds plan to buy out Ramon Hernandez's 2010 option and then attempt to re-sign him.
The option is worth $8.5 million, which is a ridiculous sum of money to hand a guy who hit just .258/.336/.362 last season. Instead the Reds will pay him a $1 million buyout and look to sign him on an inexpensive short-term deal. "We’ve talked to his agent," GM Walt Jocketty said. "We’ve made some progress. I don’t know if we’re close. But we’ll try to work something out."

Reds activated catcher Ramon Hernandez from the 15-day disabled list.
Hernandez has been sidelined since July 20 due to arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. He batted .249/.330/.355 with five homers and 36 RBI in 273 at-bats this season before shutting it down. The Reds will surely turn down his $8.5 million option for 2010.

Ramon Hernandez is expected to miss four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday.
He was bothered by the knee for the better part of two months, and the lowly .249/.330/.355 line would indicate that it was affecting his play on the field. Hopefully he can come back and finish the season on a high note.

 Ramon Hernandez-C - Reds Jul. 20 - 12:29 pm et

Reds placed catcher Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 17, following left knee surgery.
Hernandez is expected to miss four-to-six weeks, meaning he's probably no longer on the trading block. He left behind a 249/.330/.355 batting line. Ryan Hanigan will start at catcher most days for the Reds.
