Padres recalled LHP Aaron Poreda from Triple-A Portland.
Poreda was acquired at the trade deadline from the White Sox in a large package for Jake Peavy. He should draw a couple of starts down the stretch, but had a 7.16 ERA in six starts with Portland and needs to be avoided in most fantasy leagues. 2010 might be a different story.

Padres acquired LHP Aaron Poreda, LHP Clayton Richard, RHP Dexter Carter and RHP Adam Russell from the White Sox for RHP Jake Peavy.
The 22-year-old Poreda had a 2.45 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the White Sox this season, but he had been starting games in the minors recently and the Padres will almost certainly groom him as a starter. He still has a ways to go with his secondary pitches, but his fastball is very good and he's getting better at keeping the ball out of the air. If it all comes together for him, he could become a No. 2 starter. It's more likely that he'll settle in as a No. 3 or 4. Expect the Padres to add him to their rotation at some point during August.

White Sox optioned LHP Aaron Poreda to Triple-A Charlotte.
Poreda pitched well, but his 2.45 ERA is a bit deceiving. The 22-year-old was also packing a 1.55 WHIP and an 12/8 K/BB ratio -- not exactly Cy Young material. He's a great talent, but is better off working as a starter down on the farm. We haven't seen the last of him this year.

Making just his fourth appearance since his callup, Aaron Poreda picked up his first major league victory after throwing a scoreless 13th against the Dodgers on Thursday.
After Poreda fanned two in the top of the 13th, the White Sox won 6-5 on Scott Podsednik's RBI single. Maybe manager Ozzie Guillen will start showing some confidence in Poreda soon. He's yet to allow a run over 4 2/3 innings in 16 days since arriving. His first three appearances came in losses, and the White Sox only turned to him in a tie game today after going through five other relievers.

Recently promoted Aaron Poreda will work out of the bullpen, says manager Ozzie Guillen.
"This kid can be used as a long man, against anybody, lefty or righty, and he gives me another good arm in the pen," said Guillen. Jose Contreras will take Bartolo Colon's rotation spot.

White Sox purchased the contract of LHP Aaron Poreda from Double-A Birmingham.
Poreda posted a 2.38 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings on the Triple-A level. It's plausible that he'll struggle out of the gate, but he's immensely talented and worth owning in AL-only leagues. Some folks in deeper mixed leagues might also want to consider stashing him. He'll be filling in for the injured Bartolo Colon.
