Padres acquired LHP Aaron Poreda, LHP Clayton Richard, RHP Dexter Carter and RHP Adam Russell from the White Sox for RHP Jake Peavy.
The 22-year-old Poreda had a 2.45 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the White Sox this season, but he had been starting games in the minors recently and the Padres will almost certainly groom him as a starter. He still has a ways to go with his secondary pitches, but his fastball is very good and he's getting better at keeping the ball out of the air. If it all comes together for him, he could become a No. 2 starter. It's more likely that he'll settle in as a No. 3 or 4. Expect the Padres to add him to their rotation at some point during August.
