The Angels and LHP Joe Saunders avoided arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.7 million contract.

 Joe Saunders-S - Angels Jan. 19 - 5:59 pm et

Joe Saunders asked for $3.85 million and was offered $3.6 million from the Angels when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
It shouldn't take long for the two sides to find a middle ground. Saunders, 28, went 16-7 with a 4.60 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP and 101 strikeouts last season. This is his first year of arbitration eligibility.

 Roy Halladay-S - Phillies Dec. 9 - 7:59 pm et

The Angels have offered SP Joe Saunders, SS Erick Aybar and CF Peter Bourjos to the Blue Jays for ace Roy Halladay, according to the Toronto Sun.
The offer could put the Angels in the driver's seat for Toronto's ace; they have been the most aggressive in negotiations and possess the requisite ammunition to get a deal done. Saunders, 28, was 16-7 with a 4.60 earned run average in 31 starts in 2009. Aybar, who will turn 26 next month, hit .312 with five homers and 58 RBIs in 137 games. Bourjos, 22, is a highly-regarded speedster. Saunders and Aybar are both three years away from free agency. The story notes that the Blue Jays would likely trade recently-signed shortstop Alex Gonzalez if they acquired Aybar.

 Andy Pettitte-S - Yankees Oct. 24 - 6:24 pm et

Saturday's Game 6 of the ALCS between the Angels and Yankees has been postponed due to rain.
The forecast called for rain throughout the evening, but that didn't stop the Yankees from opening the gates at 5 pm ET. Either way, the two teams will meet on Sunday night, with first pitch scheduled for 8:20 pm ET. Andy Pettitte will likely oppose Joe Saunders, but Jered Weaver is also an option for the assignment.

Joe Saunders held the Yankees to two earned runs over seven strong innings in Game 2 of the ALCS Saturday, but the Angels fell in extra innings.
Saunders had trouble early, surrendering a Robinson Cano RBI triple in the second inning and a Derek Jeter solo shot in the third. He eventually settled in and racked up five strikeouts against just one walk, but the Angels' defense got sloppy towards the end and an errant throw in the 13th inning by second baseman Maicer Izturis allowed the Yankees' Jerry Hairston to cross the plate as the game-winning run. The Angels are down 2-0 in the series.
 John Lackey-S - Red Sox Oct. 14 - 2:24 pm et

John Lackey will start Game 1 of the ALCS against the Yankees.
He'll be followed in the rotation by Joe Saunders in Game 2, Jered Weaver in Game 3 and Scott Kazmir in Game 4. This scenario sets Lackey up to pitch Game 5 and puts Weaver in the probable position to take the mound for a Game 7, should the series go that far.
