Expect Jon Lester to take the hill for the Red Sox in Game 4, if it's played.
"We’ve already talked with him... we’d like to bring him back (in Game 4)," manager Terry Francona admitted. Lester is due to throw a side session Saturday in preparation for the start, which would come Monday on three days' rest. The Angels are likely to put Joe Saunders on the mound to oppose Lester.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona acknowledged Friday that Jon Lester could start Game 4 against the Angels on three days' rest.
"There’s a decent chance," Francona said. "He threw 100 pitches. I think we’d like to bring him back." The Red Sox also want to have Josh Beckett available for Game 5. They're trying hard to avoid starting Daisuke Matsuzaka, who pitched well near the end of the season but had a 5.76 ERA overall.

The Red Sox confirmed Sunday that Jon Lester would start Game 1 of the ALDS and be followed by Josh Beckett and Clay Buchholz in the rotation.
A Game 4 starter was unannounced. It's expected to be Daisuke Matsuzaka, but the Red Sox will have the option of bringing back Lester on short rest. The Angels will be throwing John Lackey, Jered Weaver, Scott Kazmir and Joe Saunders, in that order.

Jon Lester hurled 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball in his final regular-season start of 2009 as the Red Sox topped the Indians 3-0 on Thursday night.
Lester was absolutely dominant, allowing only two hits and a walk while fanning seven and using only 84 pitches to record 19 outs. He finishes his season with a 15-8 record, 3.41 ERA and 225-to-64 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 203 1/3 innings. He'll take the ball for Boston in Game 1 of the ALDS.

Jon Lester has been cleared to start Thursday against the Indians.
Lester threw a bullpen session Monday and reported no pain or discomfort in his bruised right knee. "Yeah, he did well," manager Terry Francona said. "Real well... Yes, I don't see that [Thursday start] getting interrupted." The left-hander is 14-8 with a 3.52 ERA in 31 starts this season.

Jon Lester (knee) threw a bullpen session Monday.
Michael Vega of the Boston Globe noted that, "...from our perch in the Fenway press box, he is looking pretty good. He doesn't appear to have any issues landing on his right plant leg..." Lester was struck by a Melky Cabrera liner in the third inning of Friday night's game. After his side session, Lester said, "Everything felt fine. Everything was good." The Red Sox are optimistic that he can make his scheduled start against the Indians on Thursday. Expect official word on his status after manager Terry Francona meets with the media shortly.
