 Gordon Beckham-3B- White SoxNov. 6 - 6:46 pm et
White Sox GM Kenny Williams said Friday that Gordon Beckham will serve as the club's starting second baseman in 2010.
Chris Getz and Josh Fields were shipped to the Royals on Friday for Mark Teahen, who will take over at third base in Chicago. "I can't seem to find the position I've played my whole career," Beckham, a natural shortstop, told MLB.com. He started over 100 games at third base in '09, but this is the most logical way for the White Sox to fit Teahen into the lineup.

 Mark Teahen-3B - White Sox Nov. 6 - 12:46 pm et

White Sox acquired infielder-outfielder Mark Teahen and cash considerations from the Royals for second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields.
Early speculation had Teahen replacing Jermaine Dye in right field, but with a .269/.331/.419 lifetime line and a .749 career OPS, he doesn't hit well enough to be a legitimate corner outfielder. Instead, the White Sox will plug him at third base, thus moving Gordon Beckham to second base, but don't expect Teahen to flash much of a glove at the hot corner. He's a useful player to have around, but you'd think the White Sox could find a better way to spend $4-5 million.

The Kansas City Star believes that no Mark Teahen-to-the-White Sox deal has been completed.
None of the players have been informed of the trade, as of yet. The New York Daily News and Chicago Sun-Times both indicated that a deal was done, and there's little reason to doubt that it was essentially agreed to. However, since nothing has become official, it's still possible that one of the two sides will back out.

 Mark Teahen-3B - White Sox Nov. 5 - 10:17 am et

According to Bill Madden of the Daily News, the Royals have agreed to trade Mark Teahen to the White Sox in exchange for Chris Getz and Josh Fields.
If it wasn't a certainty already, this all but guarantees that Jermaine Dye will not return next season. Teahen, 28, batted .271/.325/.408 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI in 2009 and is a .269/.331/.419 lifetime hitter. With the trade of Getz, the White Sox should be in the market for a second or third baseman this winter. In Getz and Fields, the Royals have added two young and inexpensive players with upside. Just who will play third base next season is up for debate. Neither Fields nor Alex Gordon, both former first round picks, have lived up to their initial billing.

Mark Teahen missed a ninth consecutive game Monday due to back spasms.
Teahen was deemed available to pinch hit last week, but that doesn't appear to be the case. The Royals might be playing it safe with the 28-year-old.

Mark Teahen (back) rejoined the Royals Tuesday and is available to pinch-hit.
Teahen received good news from team physicians during a checkup Tuesday morning. "It was just muscle spasms, so it was a positive report for us," manager Trey Hillman said. "He's available."
