Red Sox outrighted RHP Marcus McBeth to Triple-A Pawtucket.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man. The move was was needed to get some of the September call-ups 40-man space. McBeth spent a couple hours as an active member of the Sox bullpen, but did not appear in any games. With the outrighting, it is highly unlikely he sees any action in September. He has a 2.70 ERA in 63 1/3 innings in Triple-A.

McBeth has two stints in the major leagues so far this year, each lasting a few hours and resulting in no appearances. He'll be back in September. Maybe then he'll pitch in a game. He has a 2.70 ERA and 62/27 K/BB ratio in 63 1/3 innings at Triple-A.

Red Sox purchased the contract of RHP Marcus McBeth from Triple-A Pawtucket.
McBeth, 28, had a 2.28 ERA and a 54/17 K/BB ratio in 51 1/3 innings with the PawSox before his promotion Friday. He'll assume a role in middle relief.

Red Sox optioned RHP Junichi Tazawa to Double-A Portland; optioned RHP Michael Bowden to Triple-A Pawtucket; reassigned LHP Billy Traber and RHP Marcus McBeth to minor league camp.
Tazawa made quite an impression in amassing a 1.00 ERA and a 10/1 K/BB ratio in nine innings, but the Red Sox want him to get some seasoning in the minors. Bowden wasn't as stellar, surrendering nine runs in 10 2/3 innings.
