Royals general manager Dayton Moore is not actively shopping second baseman Alberto Callaspo, however he would listen to offers in regards to his surplus of middle infielders.
"We certainly have an excess in our middle infield as it pertains to second base," said Moore. "Other teams certainly recognize some excess there. So if there’s a matchup with another team, we’ll certainly be open-minded to try to make a deal that works for everybody." Moore was quick to point out that Callaspo was the club's most productive player outside of Billy Butler in 2009, so teams won't be able to pry the 26-year-old second baseman away easily.

 Alberto Callaspo-2B - Royals Nov. 12 - 4:27 pm et

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that the Royals are talking about a trade that would send second baseman Alberto Callaspo to the Dodgers for catcher A.J. Ellis.
Miguel Olivo isn't returning next season and John Buck is likely to be non-tendered, so the Royals are in search of a new catcher. Ellis, 28, batted .314/.438/.375 with Triple-A Albuquerque in 2009, but didn't homer once in 283 at-bats. Still, the trade would at least make sense for the Royals, what with all their moving parts. Likewise, the Dodgers are aggressively seeking a second baseman. Callaspo, 26, hit .300/.356/.457 with 11 homers and 73 RBI in 2009. He will likely be eligible for arbitration after the 2010 season.

 Alberto Callaspo-2B - Royals Oct. 4 - 5:40 pm et

Alberto Callaspo doubled, tripled and walked before being removed from Sunday's game.
Trey Hillman is still focusing on those batting averages, so he yanked Callaspo out of the game once he got to .300. It wsa always pretty clear that Callaspo could hit for average, but it was a big surprise that he ended up with 41 doubles, eight triples and 11 homers. Unfortunately, his defense at second base hasn't gotten much better. He probably belongs at third, but the Royals have no plans to move Alex Gordon.
 Alberto Callaspo-2B - Royals Sep. 23 - 12:35 am et

Alberto Callaspo was 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday night.
The Royals jumped all over Paul Byrd, scoring five runs on four hits and a walk in the first inning. Even though they didn't score again after the first, it was enough with ace Zack Greinke on the mound. Callaspo is now batting a surprising .302/.355/.453 with 10 homers, 70 RBI and a 46/42 K/BB ratio. It's worth mentioning that Callaspo started the season with zero homers in 399 career at-bats in the majors.
 Alberto Callaspo-2B - Royals Sep. 17 - 4:39 pm et

Alberto Callapso went 2-for-4 with a double three RBI as the Royals defeated the Tigers 9-2 on Saturday in Detroit.
Callapso, now batting .299 with 65 RBI, got the game's scoring underway with a two-run double in the top of the first inning. Miguel Olivo then blasted a three-run homer in the third, giving starter Zack Greinke a well-deserved cushion. He threw five scoreless frames before exiting with a bruised elbow.
 Mark Teahen-3B - White Sox Sep. 13 - 12:47 pm et

Mark Teahen was sent back to Kansas City Sunday for an examination on his sore lower back.
Teahen suffered spasms in his lower back while fielding ground balls prior to Saturday's game. The examination will take place early Monday, meaning the third-baseman could return to the lineup Tuesday if all breaks well. Alberto Callaspo drew Sunday's start at third base.
