Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that the Royals are talking about a trade that would send second baseman Alberto Callaspo to the Dodgers for catcher A.J. Ellis.
Miguel Olivo isn't returning next season and John Buck is likely to be non-tendered, so the Royals are in search of a new catcher. Ellis, 28, batted .314/.438/.375 with Triple-A Albuquerque in 2009, but didn't homer once in 283 at-bats. Still, the trade would at least make sense for the Royals, what with all their moving parts. Likewise, the Dodgers are aggressively seeking a second baseman. Callaspo, 26, hit .300/.356/.457 with 11 homers and 73 RBI in 2009. He will likely be eligible for arbitration after the 2010 season. |
