General manager Neal Huntington said Garrett Jones will play right field if Jeff Clement proves he can handle first base.
The original plan was for Clement to get a shot at first base in September so they could get a better roadmap for the position entering 2010, however an oblique injury put the kibosh on that. The Pirates have three options at the position in Jones, Clement and Steve Pearce, so we'll have to see how things shake out during spring training.

Garrett Jones returned to action on Monday and homered against the Padres.
Jones missed two games because of soreness in his right shoulder. He leads all rookies with 20 homers and has done it in half a season.

Garrett Jones was held out of Saturday's lineup and is expected to miss Sunday due to a sore right shoulder.
Jones made a diving grab during Friday's game and was unable to lift his shoulder Saturday morning. "It should be OK after a couple games," he said Saturday. The 28-year-old is batting .298/.366/.589 with 19 home runs and 39 RBI in 68 games with the Pirates this season.

Ryan Doumit is starting in right field Saturday against the Padres, his first outfield action since 2007.
We need some offense today," said manager John Russell. Doumit is in due to Delwyn Young experiencing back tightness, Andy LaRoche knocked out due to the flu and Garrett Jones nursing a banged-up right shoulder. While Doumit could see occasional time in the outfield in the future, it will only be in similar situations.

Garrett Jones slugged his 19th home run in a loss to the Cubs on Tuesday night.
Jones now has a surprising 19 bombs in just 235 at-bats this season. Most fantasy prognosticators have been waiting for a regression, but it just hasn't happened yet. Jones is batting .302/.368/.613 with a .981 OPS. He's surely carved out a place for himself on next year's squad.

Garrett Jones singled in Andrew McCutchen in the bottom of the ninth to give the Pirates a 6-5 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
The Cards went ahead on pinch-hitter Rick Ankiel's homer in the top of the ninth, but the Pirates tied it off Ryan Franklin and won it off Trever Miller to avoid what would have been a three-game sweep. Jones went 7-for-13 in the series, though he didn't add to his incredible homer total.
