During an appearance on 105.7 The Fan, team president Andy MacPhail said it's unlikely the Orioles will make a major move this weekend.
Some have speculated that the Orioles were preparing a big splash for their annual FanFest event on Saturday, but MacPhail put the kibosh on that. "If you're dealing with a free agent, an announcement would mean a player passed a physical," MacPhail said. "I don't see that being in the offing. I'd say the chances of us having somebody jump out from behind a curtain tomorrow is about zero." That being said, MacPhail did acknowledge he was still hopeful of picking up a corner infielder and a left-handed pitcher in the next week or so, leaving the returns of Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard as possibilities.

Team president Andy McPhail told Buster Olney of ESPN.com that he expects the closer market to develop later in the offseason.
McPhail told Olney that his priorities are "first base and third base and any pitching we can get," but their end-game options are shaky at best. With that in mind, under the right circumstances, McPhail said he would sacrifice a second round pick in order to sign a Type A closer. Mike Gonzalez, Kevin Gregg, Billy Wagner, Rafael Soriano, Jose Valverde are a just a few of the Type A relievers available.

Orioles manager Dave Trembley doesn't expect Andy McPhail to part with any of their young pitching in order to acquire a bat.
"I can't see us trading any of our good young arms. I think Andy's been very consistent with that," said Trembley. "...He has said we'll grow the arms and buy the bats. I don't see us trading those high-quality arms. I think it would have to be something really, really overwhelming for that to be considered." Many Orioles fans have clamored for a bat like Adrian Gonzalez, but they are far more likely to consider free agents like Carlos Delgado, Troy Glaus or Adrian Beltre.

Bench coach Dave Jauss is the only member of the Orioles' staff who will not return in 2010.
The Orioles have not named a replacement. Rick Kranitz will return as pitching coach, as will hitting coach Terry Crowley, first base coach John Shelby, third base coach Juan Samuel and bullpen coach Alan Dunn.

Nick Markakis smacked a two-run homer off Blue Jay starter Ricky Romero on SUnday.
The homer was his 18th of the season, and the two RBI pushed him over the century mark to 101. Markakis did a nice job improving his strikeout rate from 19% to 15%, but he regressed in every other facet of the game, including most notably his walk total dropping from 99 to 56. There's still plenty of talent here for the soon-to-be 26-year-old, and a step forward in 2010 is still possible.

The Orioles have picked up manager Dave Trembley's option, according to a team press release.
The Orioles are creeping up on 100 losses, but you can't do much worse than Trembley when you're a rebuilding club. He's well-liked by many in the game and hasn't lost the clubhouse. However, Trembley will have to perform among raised expectations in 2010 if he wants to be asked back.
