| Josh Fields's 2009 Profile | | It looked like Fields was in the majors for good when he replaced the injured Joe Crede midway through 2007 and smacked 23 homers in 100 games, but the White Sox opted to send him back to the minors with Crede healthy again last spring. Even more surprising, they kept him in the minors and turned third base over to Juan Uribe when Crede's back problems acted up again. Fields hit just .246 with just 10 homers in 75 games at Triple-A, so he hardly pushed the issue following his spring disappointment, but now looks likely to finally take over the position in 2009. Fields is a mediocre defender on a good day and strikes out a ton, so keep his batting average above .250 will be a struggle. However, he has 30-homer potential and plays in a power-boosting ballpark, so if the White Sox can avoid giving him another quick hook he'll have some value.Updated Jun. 25: Josh Fields homered twice and knocked in three runs in a win over the Dodgers on Wednesday night. It's about time Fields broke of his funk. He was one of five White Sox to hit a home run in the 10-7 win. Alexei Ramirez, Jermaine Dye, Jayson Nix and Paul Konerko were the others. Even with the big night, Fields will be hard-pressed to see playing time going forward. | | Year | Tm | AB | H | AVG | HR | RBI | RUNS | SB | OBP | SLUG | TB | OPS | | Proj | KC | 485 | 123 | .254 | 25 | 77 | 69 | 8 | .329 | .464 | 225 | .793 | | 2008 | CWS | 32 | 5 | .156 | 0 | 2 | 3 | 0 | .229 | .188 | 6 | .416 | | 2007 | CWS | 373 | 91 | .244 | 23 | 67 | 54 | 1 | .308 | .480 | 179 | .788 | | 2006 | CWS | 20 | 3 | .150 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 0 | .320 | .400 | 8 | .720 |
