Agent Gregg Clifton told the Boston Globe that Tom Glavine is not likely to attempt a comeback for the 2010 season.
Back in June, Glavine said he would not return to the majors in 2009 after being released by Atlanta. He mentioned returning for 2010 and has been linked to the Washington Nationals, but apparently that has changed. If true, the left-hander ends his career having played from 1987-2008, all but five years (Mets) with the Braves. He as a 305-203 record with a 3.54 ERA in 682 starts and should have no trouble entering the Hall of Fame. The 43-year old won the Cy Young in 1991 and 1998, finishing second or third three other times. Clifton mentioned that he has received calls about broadcasting opportunities for the 10-time All-Star, so look for him on the tubes, not on the mound, in 2010.

 Tom Glavine-S - Braves Jun. 19 - 10:24 am et

Tom Glavine told a local television station in Atlanta Thursday that he won't pitch for the rest of the 2009 season.
"I’m not going to pitch or do anything in baseball until at least next year." Glavine said. The 43-year-old would rather be "a full-time dad" and work on joining a team for the 2010 season. He was dumped by the Braves on June 3 and has garnered little to no interest on the open market.

Citing an email exchange with Tom Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, SI.com's Jon Heyman writes that Glavine "seems more likely to hang it up as the days go by."
Odds are that Glavine would join a team for the right offer, but it doesn't appear that favorable offers are coming in. The 43-year-old had a 5.54 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 63 1/3 innings for the Braves last year.

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, Tom Glavine is considering filing a grievance against the Braves in the wake of his release.
As Rosenthal reports, "Players cannot be released by their teams due to financial reasons, according to the collective-bargaining agreement. Glavine was set to receive a $1 million bonus once he made the major-league roster, another $1.25 million for 30 days on the roster and another $1.25 million for 90 days on the roster." Glavine is hoping the 2.25 ERA he posted in 16 minor league rehab innings will spur some kind of settlement.

Braves released LHP Tom Glavine.
Glavine was scheduled to make $1 million for his first day on the roster, $1.25 million for 30 days on the roster and another $1.25 for 90 days on the roster. It's possible that Glavine was pressuring the Braves for a rotation spot immediately, but Atlanta clearly preferred to promote Tommy Hanson while at a seasonal crossroads. The winningest active pitcher in the majors likely still wants to pitch.
 Tom Glavine-S - Braves Jun. 3 - 5:56 pm et

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that the Braves have released Tom Glavine.
This obviously comes as an enormous shock. The Braves reportedly told Glavine that they were releasing him because his velocity was down, but that reasoning makes little sense considering that he was in the 83-86 mph range in recent starts. This news is an indication that Kris Medlen will stay in the rotation for now, and perhaps more importantly, it's a clear sign that top prospect Tommy Hanson could be on the way to Atlanta soon. Beyond that, this decision will clearly do some damage to the relationship that the Braves and Glavine had made so much apparent effort to repair.
