Curt Schilling denied that he is attempting a comeback during a phone conversation with Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald on Sunday.
An earlier tweet seemingly hinted at the possibility of a return, but Schilling indicated that he was "just working out." Asked directly whether he was preparing himself for a comeback in the majors, the 43-year-old Schilling simply said, "nope." It's about as clear a denial as you can get.

Curt Schilling hinted at a possible comeback on his personal Twitter page on Sunday.
"Working out again…..not sure I can add anything to that other than I feel it in every fiber of my being, every step I take…," Schilling wrote. It doesn't necessarily mean anything, but he's clearly self-aware enough to know that writing those words would get people buzzing. Schilling, who turned 43 in November, announced his retirement in March of 2009 after missing the entire 2008 season following shoulder surgery. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since Game 2 of the 2007 World Series.

Curt Schilling announced Monday that he's retiring, writing on his blog that "this party has officially ended."
Schilling talked last month about trying to come back after missing all of last season following shoulder surgery, but decided to call it quits after 20 seasons and 216 wins. Schilling will be an interesting Hall of Fame case, because his win total is far below the typical threshold for enshrinement while his postseason performance is among the best in baseball history. He made six All-Star teams, pitched in four World Series, finished second in the Cy Young balloting in each of his three 20-win seasons and ranks 15th all time with 3,116 strikeouts.

Curt Schilling indicated that he could soon make a decision on whether to attempt a comeback during the 2009 season.
"I'm hemming and hawing right now," he said. "I'll make a decision in the next couple of weeks." Schilling did mention a couple of possible destinations if he did attempt a return. "The challenge would be in a place like Tampa Bay or Chicago," he said, presumably referring to the Cubs and their long World Series drought.
