Gary Sheffield is deciding between two teams, reports Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo.
Sheffield batted .276/.372/.451 with 10 home runs as a 40 year old last season, showing he can still bring it. He struggled with injuries and is a liability in the field at this point. It was revealed earlier that Sheff would have gone to Arizona had the club not signed Adam LaRoche. Any deal would likely make him a platoon player at best, as it is unlikely he can hold up full-time.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today writes that free agent outfielder Gary Sheffield might be a perfect fit for the Reds.
There's nothing to suggest this is anything more than speculation on Nightengale's part, but interestingly he adds that Sheffield was on his way to the Diamondbacks before they inked Adam LaRoche earlier this month. Sheffield, 41, batted .276/.372/.451 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI with the Mets last season, but couldn't stay healthy enough to play in the field.

A market for Gary Sheffield has yet to develop, the slugger told the Boston Globe Sunday.
Sheffield hit .276/.372/.451 in 268 at-bats for the Mets in 2009, a fine showing for a 40 year old. His prickly attitude remained on display, though, and no team may be willing to deal with an aging complementary player who won't be happy in a bench role. Looks like a forced retirement is on the way.

Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times reports that Gary Sheffield wants to play two more seasons and finish his career with the Rays.
It would be a natural fit for the Tampa-native, but there's nothing to suggest the Rays are interested. Sitting on 2,689 career hits, the 41-year-old Sheffield is holding out hope that he can still reach the 3,000 hit plateau. It's a long-shot. Sheffield batted .276/.372/.451 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI in 268 at-bats with the Mets last season. He hasn't had more than 131 hits in a season since 2005.

Gary Sheffield told Nick Carfado of the Boston Herald that he has received interest from four teams this winter.
Sheffield is about 300 hits shy of 3,000 and would like to reach the milestone. Of course, the way he's playing, that could take well over three years. The 41-year-old outfielder batted .276/.372/.451 in 2009 with 10 home runs, 13 doubles and 43 RBI in 268 at-bats. He had 74 hits.

 Carlos Delgado-1B - Mets Dec. 1 - 6:10 pm et

The Mets did not offer arbitration to any of their six remaining free agents.
This includes 1B Carlos Delgado, OFs Marlon Anderson and Gary Sheffield, INF Fernando Tatis, and relievers Elmer Dessens and Duaner Sanchez. Delgado and Tatis were the only Type B's; the Mets had no Type A's. The club is thought to have interest in re-signing Delgado, but only on a one-year deal. He was limited to 26 games in 2009, though he did hit .298/.393/.521 with four home runs and 23 RBI when healthy.
