Rangers GM Jon Daniels suggested Thursday that the Rangers will attempt to re-sign Ivan Rodriguez this winter.
They won't rush into an offer, however. Taylor Teagarden should be ready to contribute regularly on the major league level and Jarrod Saltalamacchia is making strides in his recovery from thoracic outlet syndrome. "Pudge had a good return to our organization," Daniels said, "but we're still evaluating other options." Rodriguez hit .249/.280/.384 overall this season.

 Jarrod Saltalamacchia-C - Rangers Sep. 21 - 3:35 pm et

Jarrod Saltalamacchia underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome on Monday.
Saltalamacchia's 2009 campaign is over, but he should be ready for spring training in 2010. Assuming Ivan Rodriguez is not re-signed in the off-season, Saltalamacchia will enter spring training as the club's starting catcher. The 24-year-old hit .233/.290/.371 with nine homers and 34 RBI in 283 at-bats this season.

 Ivan Rodriguez-C - Rangers Sep. 9 - 3:36 pm et

Ivan Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI against the Indians on Wednesday.
In a modest slump, Rodriguez had Saturday off following five straight starts. However, he doubled twice and drove in three runs in the first game of Monday's doubleheader and he followed that up with another nice game today. Odds are that the Rangers will keep running him out there at Taylor Teagarden's expense.
 Ivan Rodriguez-C - Rangers Sep. 5 - 7:02 pm et

Starting a fifth straight game, Ivan Rodriguez went 0-for-4 and committed an error as the Rangers lost on Saturday.
Indications were that Taylor Teagarden would get a chance to keep filling in for Jarrod Saltalamacchia after Rodriguez was acquired, but that hasn't happened with Pudge off to a hot start at the plate. Maybe the Rangers will reconsider now that Rodriguez seems to cooling off.
 Jarrod Saltalamacchia-C - Rangers Sep. 2 - 8:14 pm et

Jarrod Saltalamacchia will play out the season as a backup catcher, possible designated hitter and a pinch-hitter.
Saltalamacchia was activated from the disabled list on Wednesday. He will likely have surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome after the season. "I'm probably going to have the surgery, but I want to help out as much as I can so that's where we're at," Saltalamacchia said. Ivan Rodriguez and Taylor Teagarden will continue to be the primary catchers.

 Hank Blalock-1B - Rangers Aug. 25 - 7:30 pm et

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Hank Blalock has been told that he will be a bench player for the stretch run.
Chris Davis was recalled on Tuesday afternoon and is expected to draw most of the starts at first base. Julio Borbon will DH against right-handers and Ivan Rodriguez will DH most games against left-handers. Blalock, 28, has been in a major slump. He's batting .238/.274/.473 overall.
