Nationals signed catcher Ivan Rodriguez to a two-year, $6 million contract.

The most ridiculous move of this year's Winter Meetings is now official. Pudge will serve as an overpaid bridge to young catcher Jesus Flores in 2010 and 2011. The 38-year-old backstop posted one of his worst career batting lines this past season -- .249/.280/.384 -- yet is getting a raise. He carries little to no fantasy value on a bad Washington club.

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that catcher Ivan Rodriguez has agreed to terms on a two-year, $6 million deal with the Nationals.

It's really hard to believe, but it has now been confirmed by multiple sources. The Nationals have no business handing a two-year contract to a 38-year-old catcher, especially when they have a young, productive catcher in Jesus Flores. The Nats are far from being able to contend in the NL East and don't need a veteran catcher vulturing playing time from a youngster.

According to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times, the Rays do not have any interest in free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez.

The Rays were linked to Pudge by a SI.com report on Saturday morning. That report, according to Topkin, is partially false. The Rays just acquired Kelly Shoppach and still have Dioner Navarro on the roster. Rodriguez "may be a fit elsewhere," writes Topkin, "but not with the Rays." The Royals, Rangers and Giants make more sense as potential suitors for the veteran.

Ivan Rodriguez is drawing interest from the Royals, Rangers, Giants and Rays, reports Jon Heyman on Twitter.

Pudge is looking for a full-time catching job, which no team is willing to guarantee. The best bets for playing time figure to come from either Kansas City or San Francisco. Even though I-Rod is 38, he is still a great defensive catcher and isn't a total loss with the bat. He'll find 200 at-bats somewhere.

Dick Kaegel of MLB.com reports that the Royals are interested in free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez.

"He can still catch and throw pretty good," general manager Dayton Moore said. "You look at the supply out there for free-agent catchers and there aren't a lot of options." Moore plans to make defense behind the plate a priority this offseason after their backstops led the majors in passed balls last season. Rodriguez, 38, is expected to decline arbitration from the Rangers.

Jon Heyman of SI.com writes that free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez is likely to decline arbitration from the Rangers.

Heyman notes that the Royals and Giants are possible landing spots for the 38-year-old backstop. With the most recent setback to Jarrod Saltalamacchia, a return to the Rangers shouldn't be dismissed, either.
