 Jim Thome-DH - Dodgers Oct. 22 - 10:05 am et

Jim Thome said Wednesday that he has no plans to retire.
Thome, 39, just completed his 19th season in the bigs, batting .249/.366/.481 with 23 homers and 77 RBI. He was 1-for-3 with a walk during the postseason. The veteran slugger will surely look for an opportunity to DH in the American League again. He currently ranks 12th all-time with 564 home runs.

Jim Thome would welcome a return to the White Sox next season.
"I'll be honest, I would still love to come back," said Thome. "I still care about the city. I mean, we're going to live there. Chicago's very fond in my heart. The time that I spent there, [chairman Jerry Reinsdorf] treated me great. I guess we'll deal with that when this is all over with." Thome, 39, will be a free agent during the offseason. If he doesn't come back to Chicago, a return to the American League is a near-lock. Thome batted .249/.366/.481 with 23 homers and 77 RBI this season. He is 12th all-time with 564 home runs.

 Jim Thome-DH - Dodgers Sep. 5 - 1:30 am et

Jim Thome had a pinch-hit single in his first at-bat as a Dodger on Friday night.
He crushed a ball so hard to right-center field that he was limited to a single while Matt Kemp had to stop at third base. Much like the Rockies are doing with Jason Giambi, look for Thome to play a critical role as a late-inning pinch-hitter. As such, his fantasy value is all but gone.

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti assured reporters late Monday night that Jim Thome will not draw starts at first base.
"We're not bringing him over here to play first base," Colletti said. "We're bringing him over here to come off the bench and be a great influence in the clubhouse." It's the right call. James Loney, a fantastic defensive first baseman, is batting .274/.350/.387 this season with 74 RBI.
 Jim Thome-DH - Dodgers Sep. 1 - 12:34 am et

Dodgers acquired first baseman Jim Thome and cash considerations from the White Sox for shortstop Justin Fuller.
Thome will serve as an excellent late-innings weapon for the playoff-bound Dodgers. Until October, though, he's unlikely to provide much value. James Loney, 25, is an excellent first baseman and has enjoyed a solid offensive season if you look beyond his home run total. For him to lose at-bats would be a real tragedy.
