Rockies declined RHP Alan Embree's $3 million option for 2010.
The Rockies instead bought out his contract for $250,000. Embree, who turns 40 in January, posted a 5.84 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings this season before a broken leg ended his season prematurely. He's now a free agent and is allowed to sign with any team that shows him interest.

Alan Embree believes he will return to the Rockies this year.
If I was a betting man, yes," he said. Embree broke his leg in July and was thought to be out for the season, but he has recovered quickly. Rockies manager Jim Tracy said Embree is "a lot further along than I thought he'd be at this point in time." Embree posted a 5.84 ERA in 24 2/3 innings before the injury.

Alan Embree (broken leg) will throw "full throttle" for the first time since suffering the injury.
Embree was thought to be out for the season, but he has recovered fairly quickly. He is wearing a protective strap around his foot to provide extra support for his leg, which now has a metal rod inserted. "I am ready to find out how it feels. It’s time," Embree said. It may be time for Embree to find out, but it's also time for you to ignore this news from a fantasy perspective.

An X-Ray of Alan Embree's broken right leg revealed that the bone is healing.
Previous reports indicated that Embree would miss the rest of the season with the injury, but he still hopes to be able to pitch in September.
