Rockies signed 1B Jason Giambi to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
Giambi will serve as Todd Helton's backup at first base and a late-innings pinch-hitter. The 39-year-old operated in a similar role with the Rox near the end of last season when he posted an impressive .292/.452/.583 batting line in 31 plate appearances. A limited amount of available playing time, however, should keep him off most fantasy rosters.

 Jason Giambi-1B - Rockies Jan. 23 - 1:33 pm et

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that Jason Giambi's one-year contract with the Rockies is worth about $1.5 million.
He'll serve as the team's top pinch-hitter while backing up Todd Helton at first base, which probably won't leave him with more than a couple hundred at-bats. Giambi was fantastic in 31 plate appearances for the Rockies down the stretch after being let go by the A's.

Jason Giambi is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Rockies, reports ESPN's Andrew Marchand.
Giambi batted .292/.452/.583 in 31 plate appearances after joining the Colorado Rockies late last season. He'll serve as a pinch-hitter and backup first baseman. Terms are unknown, but it's likely to be an incentive-laded contract.

 Jason Giambi-1B - Rockies Jan. 8 - 9:03 am et

According to the Denver Post, Jason Giambi has told several Rockies players that he wants to return to the club next season.
Giambi was impressive once he joined Colorado in September, batting .292/.452/.583 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 31 plate appearances. "He definitely enjoyed his time there and is open to coming back," shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said. An incentive-packed deal would make some sense.

Manager Jim Tracy would like to see free agent Jason Giambi return to Colorado next season.
"Honesty is the best way to go," Tracy said. "That's the way I know how we treat them. Is there a job out there for him with 400 ABs [at-bats], and if there is, he's more than likely going to take it. That's what he wants to do, God bless him. But if not you hope that he would consider coming back and being a part of our situation." Giambi batted .292/.452/.583 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 31 plate appearances after joining the Rockies in September, but the team's need for a righty bat may come first.

 Jason Giambi-1B - Rockies Oct. 9 - 2:25 pm et

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Jason Giambi wants to play next season.
"But as a DH," says the 38-year-old slugger. Giambi, who has turned into a crucial bat off the Rockies' bench, thinks that his production suffered with the workload he took on in Oakland. "I wasn't expecting to play that much first base."
