 Jacoby Ellsbury-OF- Red SoxJan. 5 - 3:08 pm et
Terry Francona told Jacoby Ellsbury that he will be moving to left field, according to Dan Roche of WBZ.
As expected, center field will be ceded to newly-acquired Mike Cameron. Ellsbury fared poorly in defensive metrics available to the public in 2009, numbers that don't agree with Boston's internal evaluations that had him as an average defender at worst. The club, however, feels that moving Ellsbury to left would truly make an impact on the defense.

 Mike Cameron-OF - Red Sox Dec. 16 - 12:01 pm et

Mike Cameron told the Boston media Wednesday that he can steal 20-plus bases in 2010 if given the green light.
Cameron, 36, said he was held back on the base paths in Milwaukee. He hasn't swiped more than 20 bags since his days in San Diego, but he still shows great speed in the outfield and seems plenty capable of the feat. Cameron should be inching up on fantasy draft boards.

Red Sox signed OF Mike Cameron to a two-year, $15.5 million contract.
The deal also carries a limited no-trade clause. Cameron, 36, hit .250/.342/.452 with 24 home runs and 32 doubles in 628 plate appearances this past season for the Brewers. The Red Sox haven't decided whether to place him in left field or allow him to take over in center for Jacoby Ellsbury. He's a solid defender and should do well no matter where he's positioned.

Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe has confirmed that Mike Cameron and the Red Sox have reached agreement on a two-year, $15.5 million contract.
The deal will be finalized once the outfielder takes a physical, which is scheduled for Tuesday in Boston. Cameron, 36, batted .250/.342/.452 with 24 home runs and 32 doubles in 628 plate appearances this past season for the Brewers. He's getting old but remains one of the game's top defensive outfielders and could either man left field or center for the Red Sox in 2010.
