 Brian Giles-OF- DodgersFeb. 7 - 1:20 pm et
Dodgers signed OF Brian Giles to a minor league contract.
The deal comes with an invitation to spring training, where Giles will try to win a spot on the Dodgers' Opening Day roster as a pinch-hitting lefty or fifth outfielder. It might be a tough task, considering Reed Joshnson, Jason Repko and Xavier Paul will also be in camp. Giles, 39, just .191/.277/.271 in 225 at-bats for the Padres last season. He has zero fantasy potential.

 Brian Giles-OF - Dodgers Feb. 7 - 8:15 am et

MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports that the Dodgers have signed OF Brian Giles to a minor league contract.
Giles hit .191/.277/.271 in a forgettable 225 at-bats with the Padres this past year, limited to 61 games due to a knee contusion. He'll compete with Jason Repko and Xavier Paul for the fifth outfielder's spot along with Doug Mientkiewicz for the lefty pinch-hitter role. If he makes the team, it'll be at a $550,000 base salary with an additional $200,000 in incentives and can opt out of his contract at the end of spring training if he doesn't crack the roster. Despite his awful year, he remains one of the better players in the game in working a walk and should have enough pop left to be a major-league contributor.

According to Brian Giles' agent, between 8-10 teams have interest in his client and he expects to have a deal by the end of the week.
Giles, 38, hit .191/.277/.271 with two home runs and 23 RBI in 225 at-bats this past season and was limited to 61 games because of a knee contusion. His days as a productive major league player are over.

According to Alex Speier of WEEI.com, between four and five teams have checked in on free agent outfielder Brian Giles.
The Red Sox, Speier says, are unsurprisingly not among them. Giles, 38, hit .191/.277/.271 with two home runs and 23 RBI in 225 at-bats this past season. He was limited to 61 games because of a knee contusion.

The Padres will not offer arbitration to outfielder Brian Giles or catcher Henry Blanco.
Pretty easy decisions here. Giles, a Type B free agent, was limited to just 61 games in 2009 (knee contusion), batting .191/.277/.271 with two home runs and 23 RBI in 225 at-bats. Blanco, who does not have a free agent ranking, has drawn interest from a few teams, including the Mets and White Sox. The 38-year-old backstop threw out 40 percent of potential basestealers in 2009. Neither will cost their prospective new teams a draft pick.

According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, the Padres have fired first-year hitting coach Jim Lefebvre.
The Padres rank dead last among major league teams in both runs scored and batting average. Lefebvre has coached in the Brewers, Giants, Dodgers and Reds organizations. He's now on the hunt for another gig. Randy Ready will fill in as the Padres hitting coach for the rest of the season.
