Royals signed C Jason Kendall to a two-year contract.
Terms were not disclosed, but the two sides were closing in on a contract around $4 million on Thursday. It would have been unthinkable for Kendall to find a two-year contract just two weeks ago, but thy Royals fell victim to the mediocre veteran catcher market after Ivan Rodriguez and Brian Schneider managed to haggle two years of their respective new teams. The 35-year-old Kendall batted just .241/.331/.305 in 452 at-bats with the Brewers in '09, throwing out just 20 percent of would-be basestealers.

 Jason Kendall-C - Royals Dec. 10 - 4:17 pm et

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Royals are "making progress" on a contract with free agent catcher Jason Kendall.
According to a source, the two-year deal would be worth "over $4 million." Kendall played hardball with the Brewers and lost, but the Royals might just make him their starting catcher. The 35-year-old backstop batted just .241/.331/.305 in 452 at-bats with the Brewers in '09.

The Royals have offered free agent catcher Jason Kendall a two-year deal, reports the Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton.
The Royals are trying to eliminate their competition for Kendall by tacking on an additional year. Perhaps they should reconsider. The 35-year-old batted just .241/.331/.305 in 452 at-bats with the Brewers in 2009 and has a .243 batting average over the last three seasons.

 Yorvit Torrealba-C - Padres Dec. 9 - 7:43 pm et

The Rockies and catcher Yorvit Torrealba are about $1 million apart on a two-year contract, according to FOXSports.com's Tracy Ringolsby.
The Rockies reportedly have offered $5 million. If signed, the 31-year-old catcher would pair with Chris Iannetta again next season. Miguel Olivo, Josh Bard and Jason Kendall are backup options for the Rockies if they are unable to ink Torrealba, according to Ringolsby.

The Rangers are interested in catcher Jason Kendall, reports Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
"Two weeks ago, this wasn't even a need," GM Jon Daniels said. That was before questions arose about incumbent Jarrod Saltalamacchia's return from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Rangers manager Ron Washington and pitching coach Mike Maddux both rave about Kendall, so the Rangers are looking at bringing him to town to guard against Salty missing significant time. It looks as if Taylor Teagarden isn't in the team's plans for '10.

Tracy Ringolsby of FOXSports.com reports that free agent catcher Jason Kendall is "focusing on a possible contract with Kansas City."
The Royals are one of the few teams that might be crazy enough to let Kendall see regular playing time. The 35-year-old batted just .241/.331/.305 in 452 at-bats with the Brewers in 2009 and has a .243 batting average over the last three seasons. He's not likely to land a lucrative contract.
