According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians are keeping an eye on free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye.
Dye hasn't received much of interest of late and the Indians are currently seeking a veteran right-handed bat. Travis Hafner is the primary designated hitter, so Dye would have to play in the outfield, where he is a severe liability. Jonny Gomes and Russell Branyan are also possibilities, according to Pluto. It may ultimately come down to who is willing to accept a minor league deal or a modest one-year deal.

Several baseball executives told Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that they expect free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye to sign with an American League team.
It doesn't appear that any specific team is the front-runner at this time, but Morosi names the Blue Jays, Royals, Indians and Tigers as possibilities. It's likely that wherever he ends up, he'll find his at-bats as an outfielder, designated hitter and possibly as a first baseman. Morosi believes that Dye might have to take a backseat to Johnny Damon for teams with available funds.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com was told by an MLB executive that free agent Jermaine Dye turned down a $3.3 million offer from the Cubs this week.
The Cubs sent that same offer to Xavier Nady and worked out a deal quickly. Dye, 35, hit hit 27 homers in 2009 and posted a .302/.375/.567 batting line over the first half of the season, but he's going to have to accpet the fact that most organizations now value things like defensive metrics. He ranks among the worst outfielders in the league when it comes to such things.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye was talking to the Cubs before they signed Xavier Nady.
Of course, it won't happen now. Heyman suggests that San Diego or Cincinnati could be possible alternatives for Dye, but the Padres are likely at their limit now that they signed Jon Garland. The Reds are still unsettled in left field, but they could probably bring Jonny Gomes back for less money than it would cost to sign Dye.

The Cubs are looking into free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.
But he wouldn't be an everyday player. The Cubs would utilize him as part of a platoon with Kosuke Fukudome in right field and back up Alfonso Soriano in left and Derrek Lee at first. Dye, who turns 36 later this month, has spent the last five seasons with the crosstown White Sox.

The chances of free agent outfielder Jermaine Dye signing with the Padres is "low on likelihood," reports Corey Brock of MLB.com.
Dye is intriguing because of his power, but the Padres truly need a right-handed hitting center fielder who can platoon with lefty-swinging Tony Gwynn. The Padres reportedly have a "bunch of offers" out to free agent outfielders, including Jerry Hairston Jr., and Randy Winn, both of whom are right-handed and capable of playing center field.
