Seth Smith is in the starting lineup Monday against the Phillies.
He is batting seventh. Brad Hawpe has started only one game in the series and will be on the bench again with the Rockies' season hanging in the balance. "You are in situation where you have to put the lineup that feels like puts you in best position to score runs," manager Jim Tracy said. "And if happen to be in a valley, you are not going to be in there."

 Carlos Gonzalez-OF - Rockies Sep. 23 - 5:42 pm et

Carlos Gonzalez (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday.
Gonzalez thinks he could have stayed in Tuesday's game after straining his hammy in the first inning, but the Rockies are clearly exercising caution at this point. Seth Smith got the start in left field hitting leadoff.

Carlos Gonzalez was pulled from Tuesday's game with a tight left hamstring.
Gonzalez suffered the injury on his first-inning triple. He was able to play the field in the second inning, but was lifted in favor of Seth Smith when his turn came up again in the batting order.

Seth Smith was 2-for-4 with a three RBI including a two-run walk-off infield single in a win over the Reds on Wednesday night.
Smith hit a two-out line drive that went off Brandon Phillips to score both Clint Barmes and pinch-runner Jason Marquis, securing the Rockies' sixth straight win. He also had a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Smith is off to a tremendous start this month, batting .471 with four homers and 13 RBI. He's worth using in mixed leagues right now.

Seth Smith homered twice to drive in five runs as the Rockies smoked the Diamondbacks 13-5 on Sunday.
Smith had a career series, going 9-for-13 with three homers, four doubles and nine RBI in the Rockies' sweep. It's going to be awfully difficult to sent either he or Carlos Gonzalez, who also homered in a second straight today, to the bench to make room for Dexter Fowler later this week. Both Smith and Gonzalez should be worth using in mixed leagues for now.
 Seth Smith-OF - Rockies Sep. 5 - 11:40 pm et

Seth Smith homered, doubled twice and scored three runs to pace the Rockie offense Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
He has seven hits, five of them for extra bases, in his last two games. Smith has gotten his chance to play pretty regularly again with Dexter Fowler out and he's excelled, just like he has no matter how managers Clint Hurdle and Jim Tracy have used him this year. If this keeps up, he just might get 60 at-bats in a month for the first time in his career.
