Brewers released outfielder Trot Nixon.
This may be the end for the 34-year-old Nixon. He was just 4-for-38 with a homer this spring, and no one else is likely to give him a bench spot right away.

According to MLB.com, time may be running out on Trot Nixon's bid to become a member of the Brewers.
Nixon, signed in December to a minor league contract, is hitting a paltry .108 this spring and hasn't started a Cactus League game since March 15. He might not even be offered a spot in the minors. "The tough thing about Spring Training is evaluating the numbers, but I told him that if he didn't make our big club, there wasn't a guarantee of anything at Triple-A at this point," Brewers GM Doug Melvin said Monday.

Tony Gwynn Jr. (shoulder) is scheduled to play center field Saturday.
Being sidelined by a shoulder injury may have dropped Gwynn behind Chris Duffy, Trot Nixon and Brad Nelson for what looks like two bench spots, but because he's out of minor league options the Brewers will have to make a decision on him either way by the end of camp.

Chris Duffy and Trot Nixon both homered as the the Brewers beat the Rockies 8-6 on Tuesday.
It looked like Duffy, Nixon and Brad Nelson were competing for one spot on Milwaukee's bench, but now there might be room for two with Tony Gwynn Jr. potentially starting the year on the DL. Duffy is 5-for-17 and has a triple and a double to go along with his homer. The homer for Nixon is his only hit in 13 at-bats so far.
